PS5 vs Gaming PC – Which one Should You Pick Up

Even though the PlayStation 5 has been in the market for some time now, and it is finally the time when you can buy these consoles without running into too much of a hassle, it is safe to say that more often than not, people are talking about whether they should pick up a PS5 or a PC.

This comparison or question is something that has been around for as long as we can remember and truth be told, it is not at all something that we are going to be confused over because the answer is a lot simpler than you might think, in the first place.

In this post, we are going to compare both offerings and see how they are different or similar so you can have a better understanding.

PS5 vs PC – The Price

Now, this is perhaps the most controversial thing that we are going to discuss but when you are comparing PS5 vs PC, and you look at the price, the comparison almost falls flat on its face because of how drastic the difference is.

The PS5 is offered n two variants; you can get the disc variant for $500 and a digital version for $400. This is cheap, and granted, in the early days, you couldn’t buy PS5 for retail price but things have changed a lot more than you might think and now, you can easily get your hands on what you want with ease.

PCs, on the other hand are very, very expensive. It is true, they do deliver a superior experience in all ways, but for a heavy price. In today’s day and age, $500 is going to net you only one major component, and not the entire PC. So, you are going to be left out without the experience you want, in the first place.

In terms of price, the PlayStation 5 is a clear winner and there is nothing wrong with that.

PS5 vs PC – Performance

Performance is another thing that one needs to keep in mind when you are deciding between a console. Are you looking to get something that barely scratches the surface or do you want something that breaks every barrier there is?

Now, comparing the performance of PS5 and PC is not as easy as one might think. Sure, on surface, a PC is definitely going to outperform a PS5, but this is not the case when you are talking about comparing a PC and PS5 that cost the same.

Looking at the specs, the PS5 comes with eight-core AMD CPU with RDNA 2 based GPU with 36 compute units and 16 gigs of memory as a pool that is shared between CPU and GPU. While custom to the PS5, the equivalent configuration to this would be a Ryzen 7 3700X and RX 5700.

It sounds simple, but it is not as simple as one might think. You see, PCs are going to offer various aspects such as FSR, DLSS, RT, and more. However, such settings are not available on consoles. Therefore, the performance is always unfairly sided with PCs, because despite the consoles having a comparable horsepower, simply cannot compete on the same level with a PC.

The winner, even though unfairly, is PC because the number of methods through which you can get better performance in your favourite games is just too high.

PS5 vs PC – Games

Moving further, we are going to compare the library that is available on both PC and PS5 and this is another unfair victory.

You see, when PS5 was released and we saw all the tech demos, it was obvious that PS5 is going to have a lot of amazing games for it. However, this was soon proven otherwise when we started realising that this generation is more inclined on remakes and remasters. PS5’s biggest saving grace is the fact that you are getting some excellent exclusives but then again, PlayStation exclusives are slowly making their way to PC, so you can imagine how the situation is.

Now, for PC, your gaming library is as insane as insane can get with countless games available from various storefronts. The comparison here is simply unfair and if you are looking to get something simply because there are a lot games available, just pick up a PC and you will not regret it.

PS5 vs PC – Backwards Compatibility

This is another factor where PS5 cannot win. Sure, PS5 is more than capable of playing PS4 games and some PS2 classics. However, that is about it. PCs, on the other hand, can play almost every single game that has ever released on PC and not just that, there are also offerings that you can get into using various emulators.

So, in terms of backwards compatibility and the games that are available, PCs are something that cannot be compared to, in general. So, it is more than safe to say that you are good to with PC.

PS5 vs PC – Controllers and Other Aspects

The last part is going to contain a number of things that we are going to look into and we are going to start with the controllers. The Dual Sense controller is an amazing innovation by Sony, and when it was released, there was a lot of talk about whether we will be getting this on PC. Thankfully, PC has native support for the controller, along with the Dual Sense functionality as long as the game supports it, so you are good to go. PS5 can make use of custom PS5 controllers as well as official PS5 controllers, however, PC has a near-endless offerings to choose from.

As far as the multiplayer is concerned, that is where PC wins again because multiplayer is essentially free. As long as you have the game in your storefront and there is support for online gaming, you are free to go ahead and play.

On a PS5, you are going to need PlayStation Plus subscription to play most of the games online, with the exclusion of titles that are free to play online.

Upgrading is another factor; where a PS5 can only be upgraded in terms of storage. You can upgrade almost every component of your PC, based on your preference.

Conclusion

The comparison was very one sided straight from the beginning and it is safe to say that you are looking at the PC, it is winning straightaway in almost every aspect. The comparison can almost be called biased or unfair because the PC is clearly winning and is winning consistently. So, that is definitely something that you should be keeping in mind.
